Girls Gotta Run Foundation: Team Naftech

Girls Gotta Run is happy to be able to support the girls of Team Naftech. Each of the girls lives with relatives in Addis, having come to the City from the countryside hoping to finish school and become a good runner.

The Team

Team Naftech in their new uniforms, running shoes and socks, provided for them with funds sent by GGRF. Now they can compete in the running club races sponsored by the Addis Ababa Athletics Federation. Teams cannot compete without uniforms.

Team Naftech in February 2009

The Girls of Team Naftech

Etagegn Eshete was born in Fiche and is 17 years old. She has been in Addis for three years. She is not in school. She stopped when she was 16 yrs old and in 5th grade. She works in the sanitary service and her shifts are about 7 hours long, 5 or more days a week.

Habtam Demeke was born in Wello and is 16 yrs old. She has been in Addis for the last 7 years.

Hanna Hailemariam is 16 years old. She has been in Addis for 4 years.

Helina Mekonen is 16 years old. She started running when she was 12.

Mekdes Feleke is 18 years old and was born in Gojam. She has been in Addis for 4 years. She has been running since she was 16.

Webalem Tennaw was born in Semien Shewa and is 16 years old. She’s been in Addis for 10 years. She is a student in the 8th grade.

Wenshet Esubalew was born in Debra Libanos. She is 17 years old and in the 7th grade. She has been in Addis for 3 years.
