Despite muggy and overcast weather, some 200 or so men, women and children showed up bright and early this year on Saturday, August 22, to run the all new 51st Annual Larry Noel races, including a 12k and a 3k fun run at the Greenbelt Agricultural Center in Maryland. The volunteers arrived around 6:30 or so and registration started in earnest about 7:00 for the 8:00 a.m. 12k and 8:15 3k starts. GGRF Board member Jim Scott helped direct traffic while Board member Ashley Griffith and GGRF supporter Gaby Grebski helped with registration, after which Ashley completed the 12k, winning second overall in the women's division! Among GGRF supporters who also ran were Meghan Johnson, Nancy Bayerle and Heather Schmaedeke, even tho the air was so heavy they said it was difficult to breathe! So KUDOS to all who toughed it out. Also running were Holly Whitt and her daughter Sydney, who won her children's division. Holly made sure we knew they were moving to Ethiopia within a month in connection with the American Embassy there and offered to help GGRF in any way they could while they were there.
Although Jim and I were not thinking so well so early in the morning and forgot our camera, Gaby had hers in her car so we were able to take a few, tho certainly not comprehensive, photos.
The Girls Gotta Run Foundation thanks the DC Road Runners Club once again for raising a significant amount of money this year for "our girls." Even with a new and different racecourse and under difficult running conditions, they did a magnificant job. Special thanks go to tireless Race Directors Ben Richter and Sharone Cheskis and their stalwart gang of DCRR volunteers, including Dylan Bartlett, Peter Blank, Jennifer & Mariam Bolan, the Bowie family (Susan, Samantha, Sydney & Robert), Joe Broderick, Pat Brown, Nancy Bullock, Brian Danza, Elizabeth Eby, Jake Jurgens, Bob Platt, Arnie Tretton, and Robert Trost. We are also grateful to the Georgetown Running Company for their support of the race.
